The School Mental Health Program

The School Mental Health program has been fully operational at St. Joseph SSS Nagalama since 2018. PPPS has trained over 100 staff (Teaching and Non-Teaching) in the school and continues to do so every term to ensure that the teachers are up-to-date with the skills they need to support the students. PPPS also does follow up on the mental health of the entire student population of over 1000 students throughout the term. The students at the school are supported to deal with issues like drug and alcohol abuse, addiction, grief, among others. PPPS also extended mental health support to student that needed it during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The combination of training teachers in mental health and providing services to the students has caused a positive shift in individual academic performance and discipline of the students. We hope to roll out to all schools in the country soon.
